El camino de Santiago y otras aventuras en bici (The way to Santiago and other bicycle adventures)

¡Hola a todos! (Hello everyone!) I'm Rishi. I've been studying Spanish for 9 years, more or less 8 years at El Patio. Ana has asked me if I want to write a bit about my bicycle adventures in Europe, particularly those in Spain. Soy Rishi.

In English …

My partner and I love to ride bicycles. We both compete in mountain bike races. We also like to travel to Spain! In 2012 we decided to combine the two in one tremendous holiday and adventure! We did el Camino de Santiago from Valencia to Santiago de Compostela on bicycles. It is a route of the trail with fewer people than el Camino francés. It is also a much tougher and longer route. There aren’t many lodgings or places to buy things, there aren’t many signs and the distance between towns is very large. We went in September and it was very hot. The name of the route is la Vía de Levante. For us it was the perfect trail.

The trail begins in Valencia and passes through many interesting places, for example: Toledo, Ávila and Ourense. For me the experience of visiting little towns and the countryside was what I liked most. I liked speaking with the local people, making new Spanish friends, eating the typical food from different regions, drinking fantastic wines, and travelling through the natural environment that I love. It’s a fantastic experience and one that I recommend to everyone. Especially to those who study Spanish!

You can read about la Vía de Levante on my blog caminocyclespain.blogspot.com.au. If you have questions for me, please ask me. I love to speak about adventures.

Last year my partner and I went on another bicycle pilgrimage. Its name is la Vía Francigena. It’s an ancient route from Canterbury in the United Kingdom to Rome in Italy. You can read about this trip here rishiandbenridebikes.blogspot.com.au.

And of course we’re going to have other adventures! Next year we’re going to make a pilgrimage from Amsterdam along the Pelgrimspad, through France along the Vía Turonensis and finally el Camino Norte until Santiago de Compostela! You can read these blogs in future.
