El Patio's introduction to sweets and desserts from Latin America and Spain!

1. Churros

One of the most iconic Spanish desserts, churros are delicious fried doughnuts, crafted with choux pastry piped into boiling oil. Crispy and sweet, churros are enjoyed with a range of different sauces, from chocolate to caramel!

2. Obleas

Obleas are a wafer dessert most commonly associated with Colombia. The dessert is traditionally made by sandwiching a combination of sweet ingredients in between two thin wafer crackers. The filling is typically jam, cheese, cream, and dulce de leche (or arequipe in Colombia!).

3. Alfajores

Alfajores, the most well-known of which come from Argentina, are delicious shortbread biscuits filled with sweet dulce de leche and coated in coconut shreddings.

4. Flan

A delicious caramel custard pudding topped with a glistening layer of caramel sauce! While many countries around the world have their own variation of the famous flan, many Latin American countries, including Mexico, have adopted this dish as an iconic dessert to be enjoyed by the whole family.

5. Picarones

A Peruvian speciality, picarones are sweet potato and squash doughnuts coated in a thick syrup. With a distinctive flavour due to the fact that they aren’t made from regular dough, picarones are an iconic Latin American dessert that you shouldn’t miss out on!
